The BEng Electronic Science and Technology programme offers you a thorough foundation in microelectronic engineering, electronic engineering and photonic engineering.

The programme will enable you to study the complex working processes of electronic components as well as the technology of integrated circuits design and manufacture.

You will learn to operate at the cutting-edge of emerging technologies and be prepared to work in a field with multiple career opportunities due to a worldwide shortage of graduates.

Knowledge and skills

By the time you graduate from the BEng Electronic Science and Technology programme, you will have:

  • extensive experience in modelling and analytical methods
  • the ability to design a system, component or process based on initial requirements and constraints
  • the skills to use IT tools and computer-aided design systems for modelling, analysis, simulation and design
  • the ability to design and fabricate integrated circuit chips or photonic devices.

Graduates of this programme will be well-prepared for positions in the fields of microelectronic (semiconductor) engineering, electronic engineering and photonic engineering.

The programme will also provide a sound foundation for further studies at masters and PhD levels in microelectronics, electronics and photonics.

Professor Cezhou Zhao received his PhD degree in semiconductor physics and devices from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 1995. He used to be research fellows at the University of Liverpool University and Liverpool John Moores University. Professor Zhao's research activities focus on reliability physics of VLSI technology, deposition and characterization of high-k materials, semiconductor integrated optics, and solar cell technology. He has authored or coauthored more than 150 publications, including 3 Chinese books, 1 English textbook and 100 journal papers.
