Overview

In the BA Human Resource Management programme, you will learn how individuals are managed within an organisational context. You will be introduced to current human resource management theory and practice and be encouraged to think creatively and critically about the role of human resource management within the wider business world. You will acquire a range of intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills that are relevant to the field and develop an understanding of the frameworks used to manage employer and employee relationships.


The programme is delivered in the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS), one of an elite group of institutions worldwide to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). Less than 100 business schools worldwide have both AACSB and EQUIS accreditation.

Accreditation

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) is one of an elite group of institutions worldwide to be accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System)in 2016 and 2018 respectively. AACSB accreditation is a globally recognised standard for the highest quality in business education. Only five per cent of business schools worldwide have been awarded the accreditation. The EQUIS accreditation is a quality certification system for business schools set up by the EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development). It has become the most global authoritive and select business school certification body in the world with its comprehensive and rigorous review process. IBSS becomes the youngest business school in the world to have received both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation. There are only less than 100 business schools that have received both AACSB and EQUIS accreditation. This is an important milestone in becoming a world class business school and highlights the strength and significant influence of IBSS at the international level.

Knowledge and skills

When you graduate from the BA Human Resources Management, you will have:

  • the ability to demonstrate knowledge of both human resource management (HRM) theory and general management theory and practice
  • an understanding of the legal frameworks concerned with employment and their implications for human resource management policies and functions
  • an appreciation of the ways in which individuals, groups and organisations learn, and be able to relate this to individual and organisational change and development strategies
  • an understanding of the challenges of changing work patterns and environments for human resource management
  • a range of intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills that are relevant to HRM and business management.

Graduates will be well prepared for positions including human resource management generalist, recruitment specialist, training professional, change management professional, consultant, and employment researcher.

Graduates will also gain a solid foundation for postgraduate study, such as that leading to a specialised masters degree, MBA or professional qualification.

These industry links support career development through student work placement opportunities and external mentoring from business leaders. Field trips are organised to companies where practitioners in the human resource management field will relate the theory taught in the classroom to the application of that theory in a company.
